Getting to know you

SWORD COMMUNITY Meeting each other at a screen near you.

Christine Carlebach helps to run the Saltshakers Web Fellowship meetings every Tuesday. Here is how it came to be:

Saltshakers Web Fellowship emerged at the end of a Foundations Bible School series. There were to be no more sessions for several months, and we had really enjoyed the Bible School, so it was suggested that we could carry on with the same easy-to-use platform on which the Bible School was held, then build on the fellowship which had been enjoyed after the teaching sessions had fnished. The Saltshakers Web Fellowship has provided a much-appreciated opportunity to meet up with likeminded believers, including some who are isolated for one reason or another.

It operates on a ‘drop-in’ basis, currently between 7 and 8.30pm on a Tuesday; just bring your own coffee. We are also thinking about starting an alternative group during the daytime for those who would fnd this easier.

Each week is different. There are a few regulars, and many others who drop in from time to time to say hello. We’ve had folk logging in from holiday in New Zealand and even from a hospital ward. We’ve been joined by cats, dogs and cuckoo clocks and other family members who want to see what they are missing. It’s not a teaching forum, but we often get into some really deep subjects. It’s a non-judgemental space where we can talk about things that we may not have thought through properly. The Word is our key reference point and our guide the Holy Spirit. It is a place where we can share what God is doing in our lives and encourage one another in our faith and daily walk. I know I really look forward to our Tuesday evenings.

You don’t need to be a computer ‘whizz to join. Just use your smartphone/tablet/ laptop/PC and click on the link that Steve Maltz sends out in an email a couple of days before. You do need to have your video camera and speakers or headphones switched on so we can all see and hear each other. It’s just like having everyone in your living room with you – and no-one has to travel by car or bus or brave the weather or dark nights to meet, or dust or tidy up!

If you would like to come along just email steve@saltshakers.com and ask him to add you to his email list for the Saltshakers Web Fellowship. Please tell him if you would prefer to join a daytime group. There is no charge. The only requirement is that you become a Saltshakers subscriber if you return on a regular basis. SWORD on the Web Subscribers are able to freely access the current issue of Sword as well as a growing archive. If you subscribed online then you will have a log-in provided, but if you are an existing subscriber to the print magazine please email steve@saltshakers.com for a log-in. Sword magazine is closely allied to the Foundations family, run by the Saltshakers web ministry (www.saltshakers.com). This is a growing national community of like-minded Bible believers, drawn together through the Foundations conferences that have been held all over the country since 2012. This is a community page not only to highlight ministries that have become a part of Foundations, but also to encourage you to interact with us through our conferences and web pages.
