Children: Abused by the law

Either side of birth, Britain’s children are paying the price of Britain’s godlessness. Watchman reports

A bill to end abortions on the grounds of disability had its second reading in the House of Lords, the Christian Institute reported on 28 October 2016.

The Abortion (Disability Equality) Bill, sponsored by disabled Peer, Lord Kevin Shinkwin, aims to amend the Abortion Act 1967. Lord Shinkwin, who suffers from brittle bone disease, first introduced the Bill in May. The Bill would remove a provision that allows women to have an abortion if there is “substantial risk that if the child was born it would suffer from such physical or mental abnormalities as to be seriously handicapped” .

Lord Shinkwin called the Private Member’s Bill a “modest, reasonable, and logical correction” to the inconsistencies in the law. He highlighted how discrimination on the grounds of disability after birth is prohibited, yet late-term abortions of ‘seriously handicapped’ unborn babies are “enshrined in law” . He also stated that under the current law, he would be “a prime candidate for abortion on grounds of disability” . He was highly critical of the “eugenicists” at the Department of Health, saying: “How dare you? How dare you wipe us out as mere conditions?”

Private Members’ Bills receive significantly less time in Parliament than Government Bills, meaning they are very unlikely to proceed through all the stages and be

come law.  The Bill came as the Health Secretary, Jeremy Hunt, considered implementing the controversial Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing (NIPT), a screening technique which can detect Down’s syndrome with 99 per cent accuracy. Already, 90 per cent of unborn children diagnosed with Down’s syndrome are aborted. The screening technique will probably lead to an increase in Down’s abortions.

On 21st October Paul Tully at the Society for the Protection of Unborn Children (SPUC) wrote:

“Lord Shinkwin’s bill sends out a message not only raising concerns about discrimination in abortion law, but challenging the push for industrial scale abortion worldwide. “Efforts to spearhead abortion in countries which protect unborn babies are often based on generating fear among expectant mothers about disability. The fear of imperfection is usually where the abortion movement launches its attack on the instinct to protect those who are weak, young and vulnerable. “Lord Shinkwin’s principal argument is about the discrimination of aborting babies who are disabled. Such discrimination is evidently wrong – but the failure to recognise the rights of the baby in the womb means that this form of discrimination is rampant. For example, 9 out 10 babies detected with spina bifida before birth are killed..…

Lethal inequality

The hypocrisy of those who try to ram the Equality and Diversity Agenda down our throats is that they simply ignore the gross and lethal inequality inherent in Britain’s abortion laws. Such legislation openly discriminates against the disabled and also against unborn children, conferring no rights on them while giving the mother the “right” to kill her unborn child. Even Britain’s cats have more rights than an unborn child.  Since the 1967 Abortion Act widely legalised abortion, over 8 million unborn children have so far been killed, with on average over 500 abortions conducted daily in Britain. This mass murder of the innocents is tragic proof of how the plight of the weak and vulnerable in our nation is generally ignored. Mostly ignored even by the Evangelical and Charismatic churches, whose indifference resembles that of the Priest and the Levite in the Parable of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25 to 37). They forget that God detests the shedding of innocent blood. (Proverbs 6:16 & 17)

Pray for God’s mercy and forgiveness on our nation for the millions of unborn children who have been slaughtered by abortion and for the UK’s promotion of this hideous practice overseas. Pray for an end to abortion in our nation and that it will soon be banned. Pray also for the success of the Abortion (Disability Equality) Bill, that it will receive enough time and support to become law.

Abuse ‘epidemic’

Another example of how the plight of the weak and vulnerable in our society is generally ignored, is the extensive sexual abuse of children which is not being seriously addressed by the UK Government or most of the police. One retired police detective has described it as an “epidemic” of child sex abuse.

On November 25th 2016, the Times newspaper reported that the Home Secretary, Amber Rudd, had ordered quarterly inspections of the Metropolitan Police’s child abuse command.  The Times reported that hundreds of children are left at risk of sexual exploitation and rape because of systemic failings by the Met. Three quarters of child protection and abuse cases are poorly handled by the Metropolitan Police, according to Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary (HMIC).  The Times reported: “Last night the watchdog’s findings raised concern that the force was sitting on a Rotherhamstyle sex abuse scandal. There was alarm among government and policing figures that, despite the focus on child exploitation and abuse scandals in Rotherham, Rochdale and Oxford, the Met had not improved its performance….

“Some staff (at the Met) in important roles, including child sexual exploitation officers and custody centre staff in London boroughs, often had ‘limited awareness of child sexual exploitation’ .“The report said there was insufficient intelligence about child sexual exploitation in London, particularly on where perpetrators live and offend, and their links to missing children. “More than half of 90 cases where children were at risk of child sexual exploitation, including through internet use or where a perpetrator had contact with the child, were assessed as “inadequate” . Many local officers were not aware of registered sex offenders living in their areas and there were also backlogs on visits to sex offenders.”

Distorted focus

HMIC concluded that the Met was more focused on burglary and vehicle theft than child protection.

Botched cases include one involving a girl who was receiving alcohol and cigarettes from a 30-year-old man, with indications that she was being paid for sex. The Met took 17 days just to allocate an officer to investigate this case. The Times wrote: “Matt Parr, the inspector who carried out the review, said that ‘fundamental deficiencies’ in the way the Met responded to child abuse and sexual exploitation meant that victims were not protected, evidence was lost and offenders continued to pose a risk. “Amber Rudd, the home secretary, said: ‘The findings of this report raise serious issues that must be addressed.’ ”

Although there are some wonderful exceptions, in general the police in the UK do not treat child sex abuse cases as seriously as they should. And they mostly fail to properly investigate the very worst form of sexual, mental and physical abuse of children, which is Satanist Ritual Abuse (SRA).(1)

The London Evening Standard reported on 7 August 2015 that dozens of retired police officers were “desperate to tell the truth” over claims of sex abuse by highprofile men that they were told to keep quiet about.

Peter Saunders, who is the Chief Executive of the National Association of People Abused in Childhood, said he had been contacted by former police officers working in child protection, who were silenced when allegations against VIPs were made. Saunders said there is a “history of cover-ups”. He told the Evening Standard: “I am in touch with a retired child protection officer who says he is in touch with 30 or 40 other officers and that they are desperate to tell their truth,” Mr. Saunders said. “They have been silenced for a long time and want to be able to tell people what happened without fear or reprisals.”

In June 2012 the Deputy Children’s Commissioner, Sue Berelowitz, said her indepth study of child sex abuse suggested that in England there “isn’t a town, village or hamlet in which children are not being sexually exploited”. Giving evidence to the Commons Home Affairs Committee, Ms Berelowitz said: “What I am uncovering is that sexual exploitation of children is happening all over the country.” She also stated: “In urban, rural and metropolitan areas, I have hard evidence of children being sexually exploited. That is part of what is going on in some parts of our country. It is very sadistic, it is very violent, it is very ugly.” (My emphasis in bold.)

Sadly this abuse of children exists across all other parts of the UK too. Pray for a swift and soon end to the epidemic of child sex abuse and SRA across the UK. Write to your MP and the Home Secretary, Amber Rudd, urging that top priority be given by the police and the Government to tackling the rising tide of child sex abuse and SRA that has swept the UK. Pray that the UK Government and Police will do this and act very effectively and diligently to protect children from sex abuse and SRA.
